Desexing and more

Since our last update there have been a lot of changes!

As the litter of puppies that TAA has been caring for in Ankara has grown older they began to wander further from the park, finally culminating in four of them moving on. This was to be expected as the park was too small to sustain all of them. The four that have moved – Evie, Kahve and two other males – were provided the best start to life with vaccinations, worming and flea treatment. As desexing is not provided in Turkey before six months we were unable to provide this procedure for Evie.

Here is Narin in hospital prior to being desexed

Narin, the remaining female puppy (dark-faced) was desexed and vaccinated last week. The remaining male puppy, Pooh Bear, will also be scheduled for desexing and vaccination in the near future.

One of the local adult dogs, Kara, was also provided with medical treatment in the last month. Kara had developed an anal gland abscess, an infection near his rear end, which required medical and surgical treatment as well as a lengthy hospital admission. Kara has now recovered and happily returned to his local park. TAA was able to contribute to Kara’s medical expenses through the generous donations of our supporters.

A different puppy was being cared for by local residents after being found abandoned in an empty lot in Ankara as a newborn. This puppy required intensive medical care after developing Parvovirus. TAA contributed to funding the medical expenses for this puppy.

The cats that TAA has desexed in Ankara are all going well with three of the four remaining in the area. TAA plans to desex further animals in order to establish a local population of desexed female cats.

Again, none of this would have been possible without local animal-lover, Sebnem, and her team of volunteers, managing and helping the animals in Ankara and taking them to the vet when they are unwell. Likewise, it has been the donations from our kind supporters that have enabled us to provide medical care to improve the quality of life of these wonderful animals.
