Street dogs often have multiple names, and our latest Istanbul client – known to us as Munroe – is no different. Munroe arrived in the village about two months ago, very thin and lame with a left hindleg injury. It was assumed she had been hit by a car and possibly received some initial treatment from the municipality. She also had an ear tag, indicating that she had been desexed and received the Rabies vaccine. We initially thought she was an elderly dog given her weight and limp, but on assessment her teeth suggested she was somewhere between 2-5 years of age.

Munroe

We began feeding Munroe daily and providing a joint supplement, Antinol, which was kindly donated by Cenversa, a veterinary company in Australia. Munroe had a flea collar applied, so we knew somebody was providing her with care. After a couple of weeks we managed to identify several people who had been helping her (and to learn some of her other names!). A local lady was providing Munroe some food and had planned to apply flea treatment. Another gentleman was allowing her to sleep in his house at night time and had fitted her with the flea collar. He also arranged vaccinations for the core diseases and rabies. TAA has subsequently provided worming treatment.

Since beginning our supplemental feeding, ‘Daisy Munroe’ has put a small amount of weight on. We are hoping the additional worming treatment will also help as these internal parasites can cause weight loss in animals. We plan to introduce the multiple individuals who are providing Munroe care so that her treatment can be better coordinated. As Munroe is still limping we are aiming for another vet appointment to conduct radiographs of her hindlegs in the near future.

Munroe when she first came to the village. As you can see her left hindleg has been shaved and a wound treated,
